Heart of The Brain has maintained their on-going and steadfast commitment to finding a cure for all types of brain tumors. As we continue to support the dedicated and world-renowned Neuro-Oncology/Neurosurgery team and their research, we want to offer our supporters an opportunity to see how their generous and life-altering donations are making a huge impact.
On April 21, 2025, we toured several of the research Labs on the UCLA campus. We saw some of the state-of-the-art equipment purchased with HOTB funds and learned about the progress being made to improve the lives and prognosis for people living with brain tumors/cancer.

Dr. Robert Prins is demonstrating how this new technology (xCelligence machine) allows the UCLA team to test how T lymphocytes kill glioblastoma cells in real-time.
Dr. Robert Prins shows a liquid nitrogen dewar, where cells are frozen and remain viable to be used for later research and studies in the lab.

Dr. Robert Prins shows Isabel Neidorf the new digital microscope that allows the team to characterize and define the microenvironment of brain tumors. This is one of the new purchases funded by HOTB. This digital microscope called the Akoya Phenocycler, allows researchers, who first use a microtome to cut very thin sections of tissue for staining, to analyze the stained tissues on the Akoya Phenocycler.
Dr. Prins points out the important details on the screen that provides a highly magnified look at brain tissue and allows the researchers to gather data about tumor growth and response to treatment.

This year, on our 5th Anniversary of our “SoleFully Committed” Walk to Cure Brain Tumor/Cancer, Sunday, November 2, 2025, we are grateful for the UCLA team that is making great strides to cure Brain Tumor/Cancer. We are also humbled and indescribably honored by the generosity and loyalty of our supporters.
